Severe weather on the Eastern Seaboard

A deadly tornado ravaged parts of eastern North Carolina around 4 am early Saturday morning. Sadly, two fatalities have been confirmed. Strong, destructive tornadoes in the middle of the night are some of the most dangerous and most feared. The pictures of damage below are from WRAL in Raleigh. Pictures and video also available at WTVD's site.

Unfortunately, more threats to life and property are unfolding today as well, in nearly the same area. The NWS has already issued a Tornado Watch stretching from Virginia to New Jersey, including the cities of Norfolk, Richmond, Washington, Baltimore, Wilmington, and Philadelphia. The southern part of the New York City metro area is also in the watch. And as if that weren't bad enough, a watch is quickly forthcoming for the eastern Carolinas, in the same area that was hit overnight. Today is shaping up to be a historic, yet fateful day for parts of the East.
