Ice storm in the Midwest
A dangerous situation is unfolding across parts of the Midwest tonight, including Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. Thundersleet, a bit of a strange phenomenon, is being reported in Iowa, and high rates of freezing rain are causing havoc in northern Missouri and central Illinois. According to the National Weather Service, icing rates as high as 0.25" per hour are occurring tonight. Dangerous travel conditions, widespread power outages, and significant tree and property damage are expected. Below is the Mesoscale Discussion issued by the NWS.
